Les Nuits Photo defends a new genre: the photographic movie. Les Nuits Photo are showings, encounters, debates and formations, during a yearly festival in Paris as well as during events all year long everywhere in France, and all of it 100% free and open to all.
By existing on the edge between cinema and photography, Les Nuits Photo allow (re)imagining of a common history between those two arts - and all those that incorporate them. By reviving this missing link between fixed and animated pictures, Les Nuits Photo become an instant of encounter and exchange between enjoyers and creators of the 7th and 8th arts, for this moment without common meeting space, and in spite of a similar creation and mediums.
But what is a photographic film? It is a format of artistic expression without borders, the perfect meeting between the poetic intensity of sound and the power of the photographic snapshot, which plunges us into a new dimension, a sensory experience beyond photography, while embracing the codes of cinema.
